"New Year's Resolutions"

The start of a new month usually means a fresh beginning, at least for me. With December here and gone already, I've begun to ask myself what kind of impossible resolutions am I going to set for myself in the New Year? Then I realized: I'm not a huge fan of the term "New Year's Resolutions".

To be clear: I don't hate anyone who decides to make them, anyone who enjoys them, or anyone who believes in themselves enough to see them through. What I hate about them is the vibe they've come to carry. Throughout the years, the term "New Year's Resolution" has gone from "this is what I plan to accomplish in the new year" to "this is what I plan to accomplish by the end of January", and quite honestly, I hate that.

See here's the thing about the new year: From 00:00 January 1, 2018, to 23:59 December 31, 2018, is the 2018 New Year. You don't have to lose all the weight you wanted to lose in a year in one month. You don't have to cut all bad things from your life cold turkey.

If you are one of these people who thinks that going on a New Year's diet means you aren't allowed things like chocolate, coffee, doughnuts, or the occasional glass of pinot grigio, I have news for you: You are a human. You are allowed to mess up, you are allowed the occasional treat, drink, nibble, and sip.

With that said, losing weight is more about accountability then how fast you lose it. If you slip up: oops! Just get yourself back on track.

Now I'm not one to sit behind a computer and tell you that you're a horrible person because you didn't meet all of your #goals. This post isn't meant to shame you, bully you, or make you feel bad about your life. After all, I'm human: I've made resolutions, and I've forgotten all about them, but here's the good thing: you're allowed to start working on that goal you set January 1st on February 18th. Your life is your own and you don't necessarily have to follow Sherry's 16-week workout plan for 16 straight weeks if you still have that leftover cake and wine that Trina let you take home from her block party. You're allowed to wait until June to sign up for that Gordon Ramsay Masterclass, and you certainly don't have to redo your whole wardrobe/lifestyle in one month (especially since you spent all of that money the last two on Christmas gifts and food!) Follow your own pace, and good things come to those who are patient.

You can do it!

Wasabi Fusion in Beckley

Earlier this week, I went to a not-so-new-but-new-enough restaurant near me: Wasabi Fusion.

Anyone who truly knows me knows that one of my favourite types of food is Asian cuisine, whether it's Chinese, Japanese or Thai I'm always down for food and Wasabi Fusion offers just that.

Information if you're ever in the area

First of all, this restaurant had guts opening at relatively the same time as Golden Corral (which I haven't been to yet). But despite opening the same time as a major restaurant chain that's almost a hop, skip, and jump away from their doors, Wasabi has a major advantage that Corral doesn't: they're located on the same strip as Valley College, and is WELL easier to get to for all you in-town WVU students.
While I neglected to get pictures of their interior, I can tell you this: It's very clean. Like, SUPER clean. It's so clean that I would be comfortable eating my food straight off the table (not really, but you get my point). Their interior decor-wise is very unique, albeit a bit confusing.

Interior and location aside, I'll just start talking turkey, and by turkey, I, of course, mean Asian food.

Notice how it's already half eaten because yo...
For your starter, you can get a soup or salad, and I started with a simple salad with a sesame-like dressing (pictured above half-eaten), and I was quite impressed. If you had to consider this a part of your meal, this would be the appetizer, and it wasn't too big (imagine a small soup bowl), but it was big enough to really get my stomach growling!

Yes please, thank you very much!
By the time you've finished your "appetizer", your food is sitting in front of you in all of its steamy goodness. Pictured above is the chicken udon, which has white meat chicken, thick udon noodles, green peppers, onions, and broccoli. As far as this dish, the onions and peppers didn't make that much sense to me paired with the broccoli, but in the end, it was still a very enjoyable meal. Now, this serving is your main, so it's waaaaayyyy bigger than your app, and it's enough to fill you up and then some!
Nom nom nom!

Overall, this restaurant has some real potential. It's next to a college, it's good, handmade food, and if we're talking price, then it's spot on - for me to eat there with my mum and dad is well cheaper than going to a fast food joint like Chick-fil-A or McDonald's. Well done, Wasabi Fusion!

A Rather Daring December: What I Want to Accomplish in 31 Days or Less

If there's one thing that I absolutely love, it's watching people better themselves. Something about the pure wholesome idea of someone wanting to become a more beautiful flower gives me that warm fuzzy feeling inside, so I recently began thinking to myself: How can I become the better version of me? Simple: by going all natural! Well not all, but mostly!

1. Hair
Honesty time, my natural hair is curly, and I mean curly. It's both a blessing and a curse really, but one I am more than happy to carry. So I gathered all of my hair straighteners (all two of them) and told my mum to hide them away! I want to give my hair the proper time it needs to relax (without all of the relaxers), and hopefully, in January it will thank me!

2. Water!!!
It's pretty much a given that we're going to have a ton of water in the form of snow sometime, but with dogs that have to go to the bathroom, I'm not a huge fan of eating any snow that falls around my house. That being said, I have a ton of those plastic bottles that you can buy at pretty much any retail store, and I know without a doubt that I need to drink more water than I am now, so that's exactly what I aim to do.

3. Skin care
If there are two things I pride myself on, it's my love of video games and my skin. I have pretty skin. It took me a long time to come to terms with my skin colour, and I don't plan on letting something like acne or sun spots dull my sparkle! So I plan on taking care of my skin so I don't have too many wrinkles by the time I'm 22...

Aaand that's pretty much it - nothing much else! I believe that all great things start as baby steps, so baby steps I shall take! I hope that this inspires you to take the steps to become your best self, regardless of the season, month, year, or reason. See you all next time!

How I like my Coffee!

Hey guys! My name is Marzelen, and I used to have a blog called "The Adult World with Marzipan!"

Now I know what you might be thinking: why on Earth would I go through a re-branding like this just out of the blue?! Well, I'll tell you why: Put simply, I got tired! I like to think I know what I'm doing in life, but let's be real, I'm twenty years old, Aka, NO IDEA AT ALL, but if there's one thing I know, it's that I love food, eating out, making food, and most of all: coffee.

I like my coffee sweet, but not too sweet. I love a delicate balance of flavour, sweet, and bitter. Basically, I'm a picky coffee drinker (Starbucks does it really well though)...

And who knows, maybe I'll post other things once in a while. Makeup? Workout? Home stuff? The possibilities are endless!
So sit back with your favourite cup of [insert choice of beverage here] and enjoy any of my raving and ranting about all things food, fun, and coffee!
